About Us

50 years ago, dog grooming began at Ashgate. During those years, the grooming salon developed from handstripping show terriers to include pet grooms of all breeds. We are still a family business and still offer handstripping as a speciality, but we have been privileged to be affiliated with The Groomers Spotlight and Julie Harris which has allowed us to develop our own skills and train new groomers joining the industry. This has led to new groomers working self-employed at Ashgate and getting a helping hand in starting their own businesses.

In 2018 we opened a small boarding kennel; this has become very popular, and we have many customers who return to us time after time. The Cattery was added just 2 years ago, and we are pleased that this also now has regular visitors.

Our ethos has always been to provide a safe and homely environment for the pets in our care, regardless of what area of the business they are visiting. We ensure that we work to the Animal Welfare Act and that each animal is assessed and our service adapted to their needs.

Jacky & Mark have run the business since arriving at Ashgate in 2007 and are slowly handing over to their daughter, Jordan, with the help of her own family.

We are a family business who are proud that we are trusted to care for your dogs and cats, and we never forget that your pets are your family.

We Ensure That

  1. The ENVIRONMENT that the dog/ cat is housed in and worked on is safe and hygienic at all times.
  2. We do not give dog/ cat treats that may upset their DIET. If you wish your dog/ cat to receive treats please provide them or give details of those acceptable on check in
  3. We allow the dog/ cat to BEHAVE normally when we trim by working with them, not forcing them to obey us. We also make sure they have regular comfort breaks, allowing dogs to have a wee and a good sniff about outside and cats a rest in the cattery. When staying in the boarding kennel or cattery we ensure that we meet the higher level welfare standards set out by the local council.
  4. All dogs/cats kept for trims are housed in suitable crates or outside in a secure dog run while awaiting collection. We only keep dogs/ cats as long as we need them to be here.
  5. We PROTECT all dogs/ cats from harm and do not inflict pain on them whilst they are in our care.
